RAHUL SHARMA, THE KUMBLE EFFECT!
Bengaluru: Everyone talks about destiny, but, one who can tackle it may win in his career. In sports world, we have found so many stories like that of Vilma Rudolf, Leonal Messi etc. Towards this track, this season of IPL also has brought before us some leading guys.
The young Punjab leg spinner Rahul Sharma is one among them. Playing for the debutant team Pune Warriors India, he has taken 11 wickets so far in the tournament and one of the contestants for orange cap.
In the last season of IPL, he played for Deccan Chargers and could take just 5 wickets in 6 matches. Things were not favorable for him then. He had been diagnosed with Bells palsy (a type of temporary jaw paralysis) and even then, the support and motivation of Punjab state coach Bhupindar Singh helped him to tackle the crisis and open a chance to Punjab Ranji squad. In the Ranji season, he played only 2 matches, but his Punjab team mate yuvaraj Singh, the now captain of PWI realized his caliber that helped him to become the first spin choice of PWI.
In the fourth season of IPL, Rahul showed some unforgettable performances. Most noticeable one was that versus Mumbai Indians. He bowled exhalent and he had figures of 4-0-7-2, the most economical by any bowler so far in this season of IPL. He also keep economy rate 5.27, the best among all others who have bowled more than 10 overs.
Real applause for Rahul came from some cricket commentators who compare him to Anil Kumble. One of them took some step forward and said “Rahul is very similar to Kumble and can be groomed to be a good limited edition bowler.”
After half of IPL, we cannot expect any miracle from PWI, but expect more from their highest wicket taker!
